Welcome to the Birmingham Drug Action Team

Drug Action Teams

Drug Action Teams (DATs) are the partnerships responsible for delivering the drug strategy at a local level.  DATs are partnerships combining representatives from local authorities, health, probation, the prison service and the voluntary sector.

In view of the close links between drugs and crime, DATs and CDRP (Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnership) merged.  In Birmingham, this led to the creation of the Birmingham Community Safety Partnership (BCSP).

What do DATs do?

DATs take strategic decisions on expenditure and service delivery within four aims of the National Drugs Strategy which are:-

  • Young People - preventing today's young people from becoming tomorrow's problematic drug users
  • Availability - reducing the supply of illegal drugs
  • Communities - reducing drug-related crime and its impact on communities
  • Treatment - reducing drug use and drug-related offending through treatment and support. Reducing drug-related death through harm minimisation.
