Residential Treatment Centre of Excellence!
Birmingham Drug and Alcohol Action Team want to hear your views on the development of the new Residential Treatment Centre of Excellence, which will enable individuals to receive residential treatment and support services without having to leave the city.
It is estimated that there over 13,000 problematic drug users in Birmingham, so it is imperitive that we have appropriate services available to help individuals, their families and communities as a whole to overcome the problems associated with substance misuse. Treatment is made up of many different services ranging from harm minimisation services to very specialised treatment interventions.
What is to be delivered and where?
- An eighteen bed centre for detoxification, stabilisation and rehabilitation
- The maximum length of the programme will be 12 weeks
- The centre will be staffed 24 hours a day
- Upon completion of the programme, service users will be discharged back into their home communities, or will go on to other types of treatment if this is what they need
- The programme will be fully integrated within the Birmingham drug and alcohol treatment system
- Once service users leave the centre their care will be continued in the community
We will provide a service that is individually tailored to meet the needs of each service user. Service users and their families will negotiate their care plan with clinical staff at admission and it will be reviewed throughout their period of treatment. This service is an essential element in meeting the needs of substance misusers in Birmingham, but will also help us to achieve wider aims of the city in imporving overall levels of health and wellbeing and in reducing risks from offending behaviour and drug use, by improving the effectiveness of the treatment system.
